Who’s Ya Daddy – The True Identity of Fatherhood

What is a Father?

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. ~ Rom 8:14-17

God as Father

The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved ~ Ps 93:1

Role of Earthly Fathers

Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance" ~ Titus 2:2

I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 14I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one ~ 1 Jn 2:12-14

Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. ~ Col 3:21

Role of Children

Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you ~ Deut 5:16

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments;  2For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you.  3Do not let kindness and truth leave you;   Bind them around your neck,   Write them on the tablet of your heart.  4So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man.  5Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.  6In all your ways acknowledge Him,  And He will make your paths straight. 7Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8It will be healing to your body  and refreshment to your bones. ~ Prov 3:1-8

A Note from North Carolina

Hello Alamo Stone Family!

The Flynns are really enjoying our time back in my beautiful home state of North Carolina. I look forward to sharing some of our experiences with you when we return next week, but today was an especially sweet day that I simply could not wait to share!

We have been spending a couple of days at the beach and while the Flynn girls soaked in the sun today, the Flynn boys were a little more active…swimming in the ocean, hunting for shark teeth (found a bunch!), trying to catch little fish that the waves were bringing in, and trying to catch big fish off the pier! The father-son time that we had today was a sweet blessing for both of us. Once when I asked Daniel what he wanted to do…swim, try to catch little fish, or look for shark teeth…he responded, "Whatever you want to do. I just want to be with you!"

As we were enjoying God's beautiful creation and I was delighting in my son, it was not lost on me just how amazing God's love for us is…that He would sacrifice His own Son…the Son that He delights in…on a cross! It was also very apparent that for Daniel, it didn't matter what we were doing…it wasn't the activity…it was simply being with his earthly father that was so special to him. Just as I was delighting in him, he was delighting in me! How much more so should that be the case as we delight in our Heavenly Father!

As we approach Father's Day, I pray that you will let the dad(s) in your life know how special they are to you and how much you delight in them. As I have shared with you, my relationship with my step-father has been difficult at best. But I can still find things in him to be thankful for because he is the earthly father that God chose for me. No matter how good or bad your relationship with your dad is, would you make the effort to delight in him, as well as with your Heavenly Father, this Father's Day?

If you are a dad, I want to wish you a very special Happy Father's Day! We are truly blessed to have wonderful godly men at Alamo Stone. I hope that you will delight in your kids this weekend, reflecting the qualities of your Heavenly Father to your children!

Please join the rest of the Alamo Stone family this Saturday night as Dave Borski brings a special Father's Day message!

Baptism Service

Celebrating baptisms!
Hello Alamo Stone Church family!

I remember when I placed my faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 13, some people in the church told me that I "had to" get baptized. When I asked why, the best anyone could tell me was, "Because the Bible commands it!" Quite honestly, that answer didn't do much for me so I ended up getting baptized because I "had to".

Now, please don't misunderstand me…obedience to God's Word is certainly a reason to get baptized but it is not the only reason. And to do it solely because you "have to", without really understanding the meaning of baptism, takes some of the joy out of what should be a reason to celebrate. Anyone who has placed their faith in Christ should view baptism as an honor. We are privileged as believers to identify with Christ in his death, burial and resurrection! Baptism is the symbolic act that confirms the commitment we have made to follow Christ, to identify personally with Him, and to walk in newness of life that only a life committed to Jesus can bring!

Three of our Alamo Stone family members have made the decision to be baptized this Saturday, so I want to encourage you to come out and celebrate the baptisms of James Borski, Elizabeth Borski and Kent Odaffer this Saturday at 5:30pm at the Cronenberger property! If you would like to be baptized or if you have questions, please contact Dave Borski: (210)487-9403.

With much love!
